Penguin 1 Series — Kitchen Display System for Restaurants That Can’t Afford a Slow Night
A busy Friday service doesn’t slow down for a smudged ticket, a wet hand, or a screen that fogged up from the pass. The Penguin 1 Series is a kitchen display system for restaurants built to perform when the pressure is highest — food-grade stainless steel, full-body IP65 sealing, a processor that keeps up during a full house, and a display that every chef can read from the grill without squinting.
The kitchen environment is the test — and this one passes it
Most commercial kitchen display screens weren’t designed for the back of house. They’re office panels in aftermarket enclosures, and eventually the heat, the grease and the steam find a way in. The Penguin 1 is built from SUS304 food-grade stainless steel with IP65 full-body protection per IEC 60529 — dustproof, sealed against water jets from any direction, and rated to run from −10°C all the way to 50°C. It sits next to the fryer or at the cold-store exit. It gets hosed down with the rest of the station. It keeps running.
Orders in, completions out — no verbal relay in between
The biggest source of covers going wrong is the gap between what the POS recorded and what the kitchen heard. A kitchen order display closes that gap entirely: every ticket arrives the moment it is placed, exactly as entered, across every channel — dine-in, delivery, collection. One tap on the screen fires a completion signal back to front-of-house in real time. No shouting down the pass, no torn ticket, no second-guessing whether the modification made it through.
Built for the hands doing the work
A restaurant kitchen display system is only useful if chefs can actually use it mid-service. The Penguin 1’s 10-point G+G capacitive panel works through rubber, latex, polyethylene and cotton gloves, and registers accurately through wet or greasy fingers. An anti-fingerprint, anti-oil coating keeps the glass clear from first cover to last without wiping. A 170° wide viewing angle means the screen is readable from the plancha, the cold section or the pass without anyone needing to stand directly in front of it.
A display that talks back
Order communication doesn’t stop at the screen. Dual 3W speakers announce new tickets, modifications and timeouts loud enough to cut through extraction fans and kitchen noise — no separate audio unit required. Dual built-in microphones support voice-based confirmation so chefs can acknowledge orders without touching the screen. And the 1920×1080 FHD panel — 21.5″ at 400 nits or 15.6″ at 250 nits — means allergen notes and modifiers are readable under any kitchen lighting from open to close.
Fits in the kitchen you already have
There’s no such thing as a good time to rewire a kitchen. PoE++ (IEEE 802.3bt) delivers power and data over a single Ethernet cable — no new circuit, no power outlet hunting, no electrician required. The unit starts automatically the moment it receives power; there’s no boot menu to navigate. Universal VESA mounting covers wall, counter and arm configurations to suit any station layout without structural modification. Restaurants report going from unboxing to live service in under an hour.
Performance that doesn’t dip under pressure
An octa-core processor — 2× ARM Cortex-A76 at 2.0GHz and 6× Cortex-A55 at 1.8GHz — with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage on Android 15 keeps the Android KDS responsive when tickets stack during peak service. Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax), Bluetooth 5.4 and Gigabit Ethernet mean the connection to the POS holds regardless of how many devices are competing for bandwidth during a busy service. Nothing buffers. Nothing queues. Nothing drops.
Cleaner kitchen, fewer compliance risks
Replacing a thermal ticket printer removes a roll that runs out, a surface bacteria collect on, and a cost that recurs every week. Non-porous stainless steel reduces harbourage compared to fabric or plastic-bodied units. IP65 sealing means the Penguin 1 is cleaned as part of the kitchen’s regular hygiene routine rather than worked around it. And no paper means no illegible modifiers, no reprinted allergen warnings and no guesswork at the end of a shift.
Manage every screen from one place
For restaurants running more than one site, KiwiCloud UEM turns an estate of displays into a single managed fleet. New devices auto-enrol on first power-up with your policies already applied — no on-site IT visit per location. Kiosk mode keeps each screen on the approved app so staff can’t accidentally exit, and remote diagnostics mean most issues are resolved in minutes without a callout. Push software and configuration to every screen, across every branch, simultaneously.
