Description

Opticon SE-290A — 2.9″ E-Paper Labels Rated −15 to 65 °C

Most electronic shelf labels stop at 0 °C on one end and 40 °C on the other, which rules out the chill room, the unheated dispatch bay and the hot end of a production area. The monochrome SE-290A runs from −15 to 65 °C — a range wide enough to put the same label across ambient, chilled and warm zones without specifying different hardware for each.

One label across the whole site

Sites that run mixed temperature zones usually end up with printed labels in the cold areas and electronic ones everywhere else, which means two processes, two failure modes and two things to keep in sync. An 80-degree operating band collapses that back into one system: chill rooms, produce aisles, ambient racking, dispatch bays and warm production areas all on the same label, the same base station and the same management software.

Fresh pricing that keeps up with fresh stock

Fresh and chilled lines reprice constantly — yield, waste, markdown windows, daily deliveries. Pushing prices centrally means the shelf edge matches the system at all times rather than most of the time, and reductions land the moment they’re authorised instead of when someone reaches that aisle with a pricing gun. The display is fully graphical at 296 x 128 pixels, so a label carries product name, price per item and per kilogram, origin, and a scannable 1D or 2D barcode.

Locate and confirm

The high-efficiency RGB LED marks a location for a picker, flags a line due for rotation, or highlights stock approaching its date. A physical button sits alongside it, configurable through the free SDK with distinct short, long and double press actions — confirm a pick, flag a short, log a rotation check. In a chill room, where handhelds are slower to operate and gloves are standard, a button on the shelf edge is a meaningful ergonomic gain.

Holds its image, holds its charge

E-paper is bistable, so content persists with no power applied — a flat cell in a cold room leaves the last correct label on the shelf rather than a blank face. Two CR2450 lithium primaries give approximately five years at room temperature at five updates per day. Sustained low-temperature operation reduces lithium cell capacity, so plan a shorter replacement interval for cold-zone labels than for ambient ones; the five-year figure is a room-temperature number.
